ONCE UPON A TIME

Margit J. Füreders large-format paintings capture impressive moments, yet reveal the invisible to the eyes of the beholder – the flow of time.

In the realm of space and time, Füreders multi-facetted life work spans a far-reaching bridge between visionary aesthetics and mystical speculation – often intentionally superficial and plausible, often mysteriously encoded and hidden.

For years the artist has consistently pursued an incomparable technique, which she fully masters, and which is inseparably connected to her motives and themes.

Margit J. Füreder’s point of departure for her work lies in photographically moments taken of people or actions from daily life, whose sensuality, extravagance and harmonic hues of colour present a glimpse of a moment. Each image represents a narrative kaleidoscope of reflecting characters, locations and figure representation, which stimulates the viewer to develop further imaginative thoughts. In the dynamic process of painting, the artist condenses the material by scratching a certain repertoire of letters and text fragments into the surface of the picture, then scratching it off again. Tracks of color left intentionally hold her work in an energetic float between existence and mortality, between real and transcendental. Further characteristics of her style are relief-like structures and thin, transparent tones of color next to intense colors, which are sensitively combined and in their application create a mystical effect.

To this means, Margit J. Füreder uses a variety of artistic tools, such as acrylic and oil paints, prints and photography. The different materials repel each other while wet, some connect partially or melt together during the long drying process. In this way, Margit J. Füreder’s pictures blend together on various levels and are prone to a continuous change of content to which she creates and integrates new ideas. In the end, it is planned coincidence which gives her paintings their necessary spontaneity.

While painting comes close to a meditative act, in which the artist unconditionally imerses herself in the creative process, during the course of her work a remarkably dynamic variable comes into play, which resembles the strenuous yet sensual “obstacle course of meditation”. It is an act of balance which the artist perfects – between seeking, holding on, letting go, expanding, transforming, collecting and manifesting.

Specific forms lose their superficiality through the application and removal of different layers of color, to then resurface in unexpected space and depth. Like an archaeologist, the artist excavates and reveals that which is hidden under the surface. The result is works of art which capture the uniqueness and the very essence of existential themes and thoughts.

Margit J. Füreder’s paintings attract the attention of the observer with their hypnotic beauty and questioning, and reveal themselves as true counterparts.
